It includes Windows Program Manager support, but the tools are still DOS-based, so a set of icons were supplied. Norton Utilities 6.0 supports DOS 5 and Windows 3.1. This 1986 version adds the Quick UnErase (QU) and Unremove Directory (UD) programs. This version, copyrighted 1984 but dated 21 January 1985, includes Beep, Directory Sort, Disk Test, File Attributes, File Find, File Size, Line Print, List Directories, Screen Attributes, System Information, Text Search, Time Mark, Volume Label, Wipe Disk and Wipe File. The executable files were compressed with Realia's Spacemaker.

Following this release Norton became Utilities Editor of PC Magazine. This 1983 release adds hard disk support, and the PRINT program was renamed LPRINT to avoid conflict with the DOS command introduced in MS-DOS 2.0 as PRINT.COM. I even found a Toshiba branded one, but it worked no better.

I have already tried to download some abandonware early DOS versions, but the computer refuses to boot using standard MS-DOS 2.11. In the mean time, I would like to buy or trade a copy of the system disk. I made a raw image dump and can recognize certain strings, so possibly a program like Norton Disk Doctor could salvage the disk again. I have tried to unformat and rescue the disk, but to no avail. However FORMAT.COM on this computer seems to be immune to write protect. Usually this should not be an issue as the MS-DOS system floppy disk was write protected. For some reason it currently didn't remember it had a B: drive, so it tried to reformat A. It came with a copy of MS-DOS 2.11, and everything was fine.Ī few days ago, I was about to format a floppy disk on the laptop.

A while ago I bought an inexpensive DG One Model 2 laptop, the one which takes 720K 3.5" floppy disks.
